If you ride a two or three-wheeled motorcycle, moped or motorized scooter with an engine size of more than 50cc, your driver license must include a Motorcycle Also Endorsement or you must have a Motorcycle Only License.
Adding a Motorcycle Also Endorsement to Your Class E (or Higher) License
Motorcycle Also is an endorsement added to a Class E or higher* license that allows you to operate motorcycle-type vehicles in addition to any motor vehicles covered by the particular class. This will be reflected on your license as A – MTRCL Also.
*If you hold a Commercial Driver License (CDL), this transaction can only be processed at the Driver License Branch – 904 301 Blvd. W Bradenton, 34205. Appointments are required.
In order to add the Motorcycle Also endorsement to your license, you must:
- Pass the Motorcycle Knowledge and Motorcycle Skills tests as part of a Motorcycle Safety Course within the past year. (If completed more than a year ago, your results are invalidated and you must retake the tests.) Visit https://www.flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/motorcycle-rider-education-endorsements or call 850-488-3286 for a listing of Motorcycle Safety Course sponsors by county. Our office does not offer these exams. OR provide proof of completion if the Motorcycle Safety Course was conducted in another state or during military service. The original hard copy certificate of completion or card must be presented, and must have been completed within the past year.
- Schedule an appointment online at taxcollector.com. We only serve Manatee County residents.
- An Online Application is REQUIRED for all transactions! Complete the Online Driver License & ID Card Application (https://taxcollector.jotform.com/210103795736152) – or scan the QR code to access the application – prior to your appointment. Do not print the application; an associate will access your electronic submission during your appointment. Applications are valid for 90 days.
- You must present documents that establish your identity pursuant to the Real ID Act (i.e. birth certificate, U.S. passport, USCIS [INS] documents*, proof of name change[s], Social Security Card, and 2 proofs of residential address) unless you have already been issued a Real ID compliant Florida Driver License or ID card and no changes are required. *Non-US citizens must have at least 61 days remaining on their legal presence documentation. For a complete list of acceptable documents, visit flhsmv.gov/what-to-bring/.
- You will be required to take a photo per F.S. 322.142.
- If renewing your driver license, you must take and pass a Vision and Hearing exam - these exams are administered in our office. (Be prepared with your corrective lenses if needed for distance.)
