If you are on Active Military Duty out of state or out of the country, and need to process a driver license or ID card transaction, you may be able to complete your transaction without visiting an office. See the information below for additional details. |
1. Driver License and ID Card Renewals
You may be eligible to renew your Florida Driver License, Commercial Driver License or ID Card online – or scan the QR code to access the site. Your Driver License or ID card may be renewed up to 12 months in advance. You won’t lose any time by renewing early. It will just extend your expiration date. If your last renewal was by mail, phone or internet, then you may be required to visit a Florida driver license office to renew. See section 3 below.
The fee to renew online will range from $27.00 to $77.00. There is also a $7.00 fee per endorsement and a $15.00 late fee, if applicable.
2. Replacements and Address Changes
You can replace your Florida Driver License, Commercial Driver License or ID card (and request a change of address, if needed) online – or scan the QR code to access the site. Your digital image must be on file (license or ID issued in an office on or after 07/01/95) in order to complete your transaction online. The fee to replace your driver license or ID card online is $27.00.
Note: An ID or driver license cannot be forwarded through the postal service. Be sure to update your mailing address when ordering.
3. Military Extensions
As a member of the military, you are eligible to apply for a Military Extension Request. You can apply for the extension one of two ways:
Option 1. Online – or scan the QR code to access the site. You must indicate whether you are an active duty member of the US Armed Forces or the spouse/child of said member during your transaction.
Option 2. Visit flhsmv.gov/military to complete the military affidavit/application and obtain complete details. All requests must be sent to the department via one of the following methods:
Email: MilitaryID@flhsmv.gov
Fax: 850.617.5034
2900 Apalachee Parkway – MS 92
If your request is approved, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) will mail you an extension card which must be presented with your Driver License and military ID. The extension card will be valid until 90 days after your discharge from military service. The card is free of charge and available to all active duty members of the armed forces and their dependents (spouses, children, and step-children under 21 living in the same household).
