Motorcycle Only License
Motorcycle Only is a license that allows you to operate motorcycle-type vehicles only. This will be reflected on your license as O – MTRCL Only.
If you are interested in obtaining a first-time Motorcycle Only License, you must meet ALL of the following requirements if you have never been licensed before
- You must comply with the requirements to obtain a Learner License (DETS and Class E General Knowledge). If you are 16 or 17 years old, you must have held a Learner License for at least one year conviction-free prior to the issuance of a Motorcycle Only License.
- You must pass the Motorcycle Knowledge and Motorcycle Skills tests as part of a Motorcycle Safety Course within the past year. (If completed more than a year ago, your results are invalidated and you must retake the tests.) Visit flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/motorcycle-rider-education-endorsements or call 850-488-3286 for a listing of Motorcycle Safety Course sponsors by county. OR You must provide proof of completion if the Motorcycle Safety Course was conducted in another state or during military service. Upgrading from Motorcycle Only to Motorcycle Also
Motorcycle Also is an endorsement added to a Class E or higher license that allows you to operate motorcycle-type vehicles in addition to any motor vehicles covered by the particular class. This will be reflected on your license as A – MTRCL Also.
If you currently hold a Motorcycle Only License and would like to upgrade to a Class E Driver License with a Motorcycle Also endorsement, you would be required to pass the Class E Road Test before you can upgrade to a Class E license with a Motorcycle Also Endorsement.
Note: If you are interested in upgrading, we can issue you a 60-day temporary driving permit that will allow you to practice in Class E vehicles. The permit requires you to have a licensed driver 21 years of age or older in the front seat while you are operating the vehicle.
