1. When to Contact the Department of Revenue:
- For general sales tax questions or questions regarding the amount of sales tax paid on a purchase/transaction.
- When disputing* the amount of sales tax due or the amount being quoted for a purchase/transaction.
- To apply online for a refund of an overpayment of sales tax, visit taxapps.floridarevenue.com/Refunds/DR26S.aspx
- If you received a letter informing you that the purchase price declared on a recently titled vehicle is below Fair Market Value.
- To obtain your Annual Resale Certificate number or if you need to apply for/renew your Annual Resale Certificate.
- To obtain your Certificate of Exemption number or if you need to apply for/renew your Certificate of Exemption.
- To obtain information about refund of overpayment of sales tax.
* If the Department of Revenue informs you that your purchase/transaction is totally or partially exempt from sales tax, you must obtain the ruling in writing on the Department of Revenue’s letterhead stationery and signed by an authorized agent. Our office will not contact the Department of Revenue on your behalf.
