There are several reasons why you may be referred to the Social Security Administration. The most common reasons are as follows:
- Your name and/or date of birth on file with the Social Security Administration does not exactly match the information on your Florida driver license or identification card. If you have recently changed your name, you must update your record at the Social Security Administration.
- You could not present your original Social Security card because it is lost or stolen. You must apply for a replacement card at the Social Security Administration or go online to https://www.ssa.gov/.
IMPORTANT! If updating your personal information (name, date of birth, etc.), you must wait a minimum of 48 hours before returning to our office to update your driver license or ID card. This ensures that the system has been updated.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
It is required as part of the Federal Real ID Act, which sets new standards for the issuance of driver licenses and ID cards. It is a nationwide effort to improve the integrity and security of state-issued driver licenses and ID cards, which in turn will help fight terrorism and reduce fraud.
