In March of 2024, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) rolled out a new testing system that is utilized by Driver's Ed, 3rd Party Testing Providers and local Tax Collector's Offices to upload and review exam data. As the system is relatively new, the process is in a constant state of review, and adjustments are continuously being made.
Why couldn’t the Tax Collector’s Office find my (or my child’s) exams?
When you come to the Tax Collector’s Office to upgrade to a Class E license, we try to pull your exam records directly into your driver license file. Sometimes, this doesn’t work automatically. If that happens, we try to find your exam using the portal that Driver’s Ed and other testing providers use to upload exam data. We can only search this portal using your Learner License or Driver License number, but sometimes this number isn't linked to the exam. If we can’t find your exam, we will contact the DHSMV for assistance. Since the DHSMV helps many offices across the state, their response might take some time. Because of this, we might ask that you wait in the lobby or come back later after we get a response from them.
If I'm sent away because the Tax Collector's Office can't find my exams, does this mean I won't be able to get my license?
We're not saying you can't get your upgraded driver license. Our office has limited access to exam data, so we're asking the DHSMV for help. They have extra resources to find the exam information we need to upgrade your license, if it's available.
What should I do if the DHSMV says they cannot locate my exams?
If the DHSMV is unable to locate your skills exams, please contact your Driver’s Ed examiner or 3rd Party Provider directly. They have a specific contact with the State to assist them with resolving any issues.
You also have the option to contact the DHSMV directly using one of the following options:
- By phone - (850) 617-2421
- By email - TPA-assistance@flhsmv.gov
Why can't my exam be found?
There are a variety of reasons why the exam may not be found. Some of the more common reasons are:
- The exam may have been uploaded without your driver license number.
- Your name may have been formatted differently than the name on your driver license record.
This is not an all-inclusive list and neither of these reasons may apply to your situation. In any case, if neither our office nor the DHSMV can locate your exam, reach out to your Driver's Ed examiner or 3rd Party Provider for assistance. They have a specific contact with the State to assist them with resolving any issues.
Since there have been issues locating my exams, should I go ahead and retest?
We understand that waiting for your skills exam to be located is frustrating, but we don't recommend retesting if you have already passed the exam. Additional fees may be charged, plus you run the risk of failing your retest.
Please reach out to your Driver's Ed examiner, 3rd Party Provider or the DHSMV directly for assistance with resolving this issue.
